A keyboard that feels premium, is extremely mobile, and is durable.Pros:- The most mobile keyboard. I don't care what keyboard you should choose, there is none more mobile than the Surface Type Cover. The keyboard overall adds exactly .2 inches the depth of the Surface Pro 3. It is so compact that it goes everywhere that my Surface does. Bathroom, road trip, bookstore, fast food place, friends house, another country. It goes everywhere.- A classy feel. This keyboard is built with premium feeling materials. The use of fabric in the keyboard is a very nice change. It reminds me of my soft wrist-saver at home. The backlighting on this keyboard blows my mind. It is as good- if not better- than my MacBook Pro Retina's. It is never blinding, and never too weak. The keys all feel sturdy, and all have a fantastic clicky noise. The trackpad is lightyears beyond what I expected. It is smooth, and my finger glides over it very easily. Even the magnet to prop up the keyboard feels premium. It is strong and doesn't come off unless I want it to.- Connection to the Surface. The keyboard doesn't "click" on. It LOCKS on. And stays on. The magnets in the connecting hardware are very strong, but not enough to cause any damage. I love how the fabric covers most of the side of the Surface as well. It provides great grip on the device, as well as keeping it soft for people who actually carry the device a lot.- It is sturdy. This keyboard is very, very durable. Albeit getting a little dirty, mine has held up surprisingly well. I had counted on the fabric tearing or fraying at some point, but so far that has not happened. The material doesn't appear to scratch or scrape. For being so light and so slim, it also has a rigidity that is nice. There is a sliver of play in the keyboard when propped up by the magnet, but not enough that it is annoying. Overall a keyboard built to withstand the hazards of travel.- Specialized function row keys. I love how Microsoft designed the function row keys with special functions. From left to right, keyboard brightness down, keyboard brightness up, mute, play/pause, search, share, devices, settings, home, end, page up, and page down. My most used is the settings key.- A caps key light. This may seem like a small thing, but the caps key light was something that I was introduced to with my Mac, and I hate every keyboard that doesn't have one. The light is white, and it is bright enough to see when indoors or out, and in use.Mehs:- The pen loop. This loop does lose its grip after a while. It doesn't bother me a lot though. My case has a built in holder for the pen.- The keyboard gets dirty. The biggest problem that I have found with the fabric material covering the keyboard is that I gets dirty. Mine has been shoved into book bags, placed on tables, and touched by dirty hands. It just gets dirty. This doesn't effect the overall usability of the keyboard however, just the looks.Cons:- Short key travel. Keyboards with short key travel are hard to type on for long periods of time. For long typing sessions a mechanical keyboard would be best. For everyday use however, this keyboard will perform perfectly.- Small trackpad. Why anyone would want to use gestures on a trackpad when they have touchscreen Surface escapes me, but yes, this trackpad is far too small for gestures. If that is your thing... I don't like switching from my MacBooks trackpad to my Surface's trackpad. The trackpad on the Surface, although as accurate, is half the size of the MacBook's. It's really awkward to use sometimes.- For some too flexible. For some, the keyboard may bounce too much propped up by the magnet. There is a little play, but not enough that I personally notice.- It is a obligation. Contrary to what Microsoft claims, this keyboard is absolutely necessary. Not including it is simply a tactic to get the base price of the Surface down to where people can afford it.Conclusion:This is the perfect match for the Surface Pro 3. It is light, portable, and it feels premium. However, the price is a little much for some, and the device is more of a requirement than an option. Highly recommended, but that doesn't matter if you already own a Surface. You are going to buy one anyway.
