I’ve had this for a few months now with my 2017 MacBook Pro and it allows me to work from my couch with a more flexible setting; it needs some workarounds but overall I think it’s great and sturdy. The assembly manual is not super clear at one point but I was able to figure it out with some intuition. A few notes for some folks looking at this product: 1. It might be off-balanced if you rotate your laptop too much to the side but I have its base under my couch so it never falls — you can also add weights to the base to avoid falling.2. I wish the length of the center axis would extend/shorten based on how high you want your laptop go, but this does not affect the functionality3. It requires a bit of work to adjust the height but gets easy once you get the hang of it; I like this just shows how steady the structure is.4. The base that goes under your laptop would get wobbly from time to time if you rotate your laptop often, which requires retightening.5. I like that you can collapse the arm while not in use; the base takes up some space just fyi.I work in IT and sit and stand in front of my workstation all day. After work, I just want to veg with my MacBook Air on my recliner couch. I was getting neck and shoulder strain from constantly looking down at my laptop while balancing it on the armrest or on my lap, so I looked for a way to be ergonomically lazy (as ergonomical as a plush reclining couch can ever allow).I needed something that didn't take up too much space and was easy to get out of the way. I also needed something that was going to be sturdy and hold my laptop about 70 degrees from horizontal without fearing it was going to fall on me while I reclined. The MagicHold was one of the few products I could find online that checked all those boxes, so I placed an order for it.Assembly instructions were poor, but it wasn't too hard to figure out how to screw three rods together. After assembly, I positioned it over my couch and clamped in my MacBook. The stand overall seemed able to support the weight, so I angled the laptop about 70 degrees to see if it would fall out of the base, and the laptop didn't fall. So far, so good. When I tried sitting down on the couch and reclining, I was able to pivot the laptop to exactly where I wanted it. Success! However, after a day or so, I realized that while perfect for watching Netflix, reaching up to the keyboard to type and move the mouse for anything more than a few clicks wasn't ergonomic, and frankly tiring. So, to supplement the stand, I bought Apple's magic keyboard and trackpad along with a simple tray to put them on. Those I have on my lap while I watch the screen being held by the MagicHold. In fact, I'm typing this review reclined on the couch and haven't needed to physically touch my laptop at all this morning. The shoulder and neck strain went away using this setup, but now my lower back aches from being on a reclining couch for so long, but I can't fault MagicHold for that. While MagicHold works for me and my use case, I did want to point out a few things called out in other reviews:1. This product is stable for typing on, but there is noticeable reverberation. If you type lightly or only intend to type a little bit while using MagicHold, I don't think it is a problem. Before I switched to using a wireless keyboard and trackpad, I did realize I couldn't be as heavy handed when using my MacBook's builtin keyboard or trackpad because of the reverberation.2. I was a little concerned when I saw a few reviews complaining about not being able to pivot the laptop out of their way when getting up. Leaving the comfort of a couch is already sadness...who wants to make it a struggle? I myself struggled at first because my first inclination to get the laptop out of my way was to move the whole arm, but the arm doesn't pivot around the main rod / stand. Then I realized that I wasn't using the pivot in the middle of the arm. I found I could easily swing the laptop completely out of my way by turning this pivot. Problem solved. Some things I wish MagicHold would improve:1. Switching between the different clamps for your digital devices requires an allen wrench and some critical thinking skills. I wish it were intuitive and could be done without needing to grab a tool.2. The grips that make contact with your laptop to hold it in place can easily slide out (and get lost) if you aren't careful when removing your laptop from the stand.Overall, this stand does the job and now I'm much more comfortable lounging around with my laptop. This is the best laptop holder I have used. And I've tried a lot of them. This one allows me to sit in Amy chair or couch and get my laptop right in the position I want it. Very impressed. Good material and build. Ty.I am satisfied with the built quality. I recommend this product to others. But a little inconvenient.... I can't use this for both my laptop and my tablet. You have to decide between a laptop or a tablet. It is hard and inconvenient to switch them.I wouldn't expect to have to use a weight to stabilize this when the arm is swung out. I used this on the side of my bed. Only the top part of the arm rotates which makes it difficult to use sitting. The angle of the arm is fixed and is a bit awkward. It's annoying to change out the laptop and phone/iPad attachments. It wasn't worth the money or the space it takes up.I really like this stand quite a bit - it's easy to assemble and the majority of the parts are metal and have heft to them. However a few things to note:Cons:it's still a little wibbly-wobbly when stretched out to it's max length - but if you place the stand under a bedframe or couch, it helps.Connections between parts are also not as flush as possible, creating some wiggle back and forth when typing. The spring clamps sit to "hold" your laptop via tension to the board completely obscures both ports on my laptop (both right and left side) for my mouse, so that's not good. In order for it to work, I had to shuffle my laptop on the backboard higher (thus adding to the wiggle back and forth when typing). Making the spring clamps adjustable (able to slide vertically up or down the board) would be a good fix for future design.Pros:Easy to assemble, easy to adjust! Materials are solid - don't feel flimsy. I'm not worried that my laptop will fall when it's held by this frame. Easy to "swing" it out of the way if I'm in a chair and need to get up. Easy to move around from chair to bed if needed. Decent item for the price for sure.First, look at the open box deals. I purchased the second on in perfect condition for $15 less because it was an open box.I put a 2lb weight on one leg because I swing it back and forth often. The little bit of weight makes it sturdier.Love it for sitting in bed as well as my office. It is easy to assemble, it is easy to use as advertised, but it is not terribly stable. 2 things could improve it greatly though: if the rotating arm was a little longer, and if the base V was a little heavier and adjustable to make it a little more stable..Useful gadget. The screw to secure the holder to the vertical frame is a little flimsy.
