I do a lot of custom trim wood work and I make knife handles. Brushing water based exterior Varathane lacquer gives mixed results.For smaller projects, my large Fuji HVLP guns are overkill and even my Paasche 4 ounce HVLP gun is too big. This airbrush fills that gap.There tends to be more sanding between coats with a brush and I never like the end finish using a brush.Water based poly has to be thinned and strained. The Paasche airbrush dislikes poly that is not strained - it clogs easily.I recently made some custom Purpleheart wood accents for under a glass hand rail and I used this Paasche airbrush for the lacquer. The pieces are 3 inches by about 5 1/2 inches - too small for a “real” spray gun but ideal for this airbrush. The finish came out great after 3 coats.I recently completed a custom walnut burl knife handle for a vintage Japanese Nakiri knife blade that I restored. Again the Paasche air brush worked great. I gave the handle 5 coats for durability. I didn’t have to sand between coats which makes up for having to clean the airbrush .The Paasche is easy to clean, the three tips would be good for doing intricate detail work (that I don’t do) and the build quality is outstanding. Parts availability is also excellent.Overall, this little airbrush, typically used by artists, motorcycle tank painters and modelers has a place in my woodworking shop. Hope that helps!
